Volunteer Opportunities
WomenShelter of Long Beach and its staff are committed to eliminating domestic violence through direct client services and a variety of prevention and intervention efforts. Combating domestic violence is a collective community effort. WSLB invites community members to help eliminate domestic violence by becoming a volunteer. Each and every minute provided by a volunteer helps further WSLB’s mission to eliminate domestic violence so that future generations can live without violence.
How do I become a WSLB volunteer?
Please contact WSLB’s Outreach Coordinator, Nina Taweepong at ntaweepong@womenshelterlb.org or 562-437-7233, Ext. 28 to learn more about what opportunities are available. Volunteers are recruited on an as-needed basis.
Thank you on behalf of WSLB.
Adult Services Program Volunteer Opportunities*:
Open to students at the college and university level and professionals with related experience.
The WSLB Adult Services Program provides adults with support by creating a safe and confidential environment. Within this safe space, adults receive personalized case management, peer counseling, legal and healthy advocacy, and the opportunity to participate in groups where they can work towards improving their resiliency and self-sufficiency.
Children & Youth Services Program Volunteer Opportunities*:
Open to students at the college and university level and professionals with related experience.
In hopes of effectively combating Domestic Violence and the resulting effects it has on both primary and secondary victims, WSLB offers services to youth and children. The WSLB Children & Youth Services Program provides children with support by creating a safe and confidential environment. Within this safe space, youth are free to explore how they feel through workshops and art activities. Here they gain knowledge about domestic violence and work towards improving their confidence and self-esteem in a group and/or individual setting.
Administrative Support Volunteer Opportunities:
WSLB seeks to provide the highest quality of services to all its clients. A crucial aspect of the organization’s success is reliant upon the work completed within administration. Through administrative work, WSLB creates an inviting environment, ensures that a system of organization is implemented to increase efficiency, and much more.
Outreach and Development Volunteer Opportunities:
As part of WSLB’s mission to eliminate domestic violence, WSLB strives to bring awareness and knowledge of domestic violence to the community. The agency’s extensive outreach efforts and awareness events offer children, youth, and adult members of our community with important life changing education. WSLB provides a variety of workshops and presentations open to the public, participates in resource fairs and other community events, conducts a 40-hour Domestic Violence Training, and organizes WSLB awareness events such as an annual Candlelight Vigil.
*These volunteers require the completion of the state mandated 40-Hour Domestic Violence Training, background verification (LiveScan), and TB test (current, within one year).
If you have any questions regarding the registration process or the 40-Hour Domestic Violence Training please contact Nina Taweepong ntaweepong@womenshelterlb.org or 562-437-7233 Ext. 28.
